Studying God's Word

BUMC offers many ways to grow in God's word through studies all grounded in scripture.

Tuesday Morning Women’s Study

The first Spring study begins on Tuesday, January 13, 2023, at 9:30 AM

Classes are held in the Holy Grounds Room of Fellowship Hall

Expecting to see Jesus by Anne Graham Lotz

In this nine-session small group Bible study, Anne Graham Lotz
delivers a new message from the Mount of Olives in Israel and issues a wake-up call using
the signs of Jesus'  return. In it, Anne leads you through a Bible study workshop, joined by pastors
Crawford Loritts and Henry Blackaby for seven additional sessions to discuss the experience of a deeper, richer relationship with God through a life-changing, fire blazing revival. Anne knows from personal
experience that it's in the busyness of our days, as we're drifting into a comfortable complacency, we most
need a wake-up call—a jolt that pushes us to seek a revival of our passion for Jesus that began as a blazing
fire but somehow has died down to an ineffective glow. In Expecting to See Jesus, Anne shows how you
can experience an authentic, deeper, richer relationship with God in a life-changing, fire-blazing revival.

Sessions include:
1. He’s Coming!
2. Listening for His Voice: Bible Study Workshop
3. You’re Sleeping!
4. Wake Up!
5. Open Your Eyes!
6. Bend Your Heart
7. Bend Your Knees!
8. Just Say Yes!
9. Move Your Feet!

The second Spring study will begin on March 28, 2023

The Abide Bible Course by Phil Collins

Discover five innovative ways to read the Bible
Do you feel guilty that you don’t read your Bible every day? When
you do sit down to study the Bible, do you find yourself easily distracted and feeling
like you’re missing something? Are you  looking to connect with God’s Word in a fresh
way that makes you look forward to your daily time in Scripture? If so, The Abide Bible
Course is for you! In this study, a professor and a pastor—Dr. Phil Collins and Randy Frazee—
will walk you through five innovative practices that will take you beyond just reading and help you deeply engage with Scripture in a way that fits your unique personality and learning style.
In each session, they will explain the practice and  walk you through each one—with
practical examples—so you can try it out for the upcoming week. These practices include:

·      Praying Scripture: pray with the words of Scripture instead of your own
·      Engage Through Art: looking at works of art to help you see a passage in a new way
·      Journal: writing out your thoughts and feelings on a passage to give you greater clarity
·      Picture It: putting yourself into the stories of the Bible to experience them firsthand
·      Contemplate: deeply reflecting and praying through a passage in God’s Word

Jesus instructed his followers to "abide" in him
so they could lead fruitful lives (see John 15:4). The Abide Bible Course will
equip you to establish a daily, lifelong habit of abiding in God's Word so you can hear his voice.

His people through His Son, Jesus Christ. Kids will
be shown how the whole Bible points to Jesus and the
gospel. There will be fun extras like art, videos, music,
and activities to keep your kids engaged every week.

Seekers Class (Adults)
Fellowship Hall,
Holy Grounds Room: Eve Shope, public
school educator and dedicated Seekers SS class
facilitator, continues to build group cohesiveness
and inspire group discussion as various books of
the Bible are examined through close reading
and thoughtful study. Members of her class are
encouraged to comment and ask questions on the
scripture being studied—regardless of their level
of Biblical under- standing. Eve's husband, Pat,
partners in facilitating the lessons. The Apostle, Paul,
wrote to the people at Ephesus saying this: “I keep
asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom
and revelation, so that you may know him better.” This a
great time to join an adult Sunday School class to enjoy
Christian fellowship while growing in Biblical wisdom!

Covenant Class (Adults)
Education Building room 207: Jim Richardson,
long time BUMC member, will use scripture as a
guide for class members to understand and know
what God desires of us. Lessons will come from
topical subjects that are of a concern to the class and
group discussion and interaction will lead followers
to know God in a deeper way. Jim has a BA
in Christian Studies, has written Bible studies,
and has hosted a Christian group to the Holy Land in
the past. Deeply spiritual and a God-fearing man,
Jim Richardson’s commitment to the Jesus “Way of Life”
is inspiring! Proverbs 16:16 says having wisdom
and understanding is better than having silver and
gold! Fellowship, fun and learning—what could be better!
