Studying God's Word

BUMC offers many ways to grow in God's word through studies all grounded in scripture.

Tuesday Morning Women’s Study

The Tuesday Morning Study Group will begin its fall study on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.

Classes are held in the Holy Grounds room in Fellowship Hall.
Due to the length of the videos we will be watching, some classes might last longer than usual.  Classes will start at 9:30 AM (on time) and will last for 1 ½ – 2 hours.  We will be watching and discussing the second season of the show called The Chosen, which is the first multi-season show about the life of Christ. In season two of The Chosen the word is spreading that Jesus is the Messiah. Increased fame brings growing crowds, new disciples, and more miracles.  It also brings trouble. The title of the second season is called Come and See.  So we invite you to “come and see” with us and watch as Mary is confronted with old demons; as the tension between Simon and Matthew explodes; see James and John battle their prejudice and fiery tempers; and yet they all continue to passionately pursue the man they don't always understand,
but will always follow.

Wednesday nights

Scripture and the Skeptic by Eric Huffman
Begins September 7th at 6:30 pm for 8 weeks.

Led by Rich Jenkins
The Bible is the best-selling, most widely read, and most quoted book in history. It is also misunderstood, misquoted, and fiercely debated. If, as Christians believe, the Bible is the word of God, why is it so complex and difficult to interpret in parts, yet simple enough for even children to understand in others?  In Scripture and the Skeptic, Eric Huffman, author of 40 Days of Doubt, helps listeners understand and cope with confusion about the Bible and provides answers to questions by reframing it as a perfect and seamless story. Huffman illustrates how the Bible, even the parts some consider ungodly, presents the beautiful story that God intended to tell.
Disciple Fast Track Old Testament Study (Disciple 1)
Begins September 7th at 6:30 pm for 12 weeks
Led by Pastor Hannah
This 12-week study immerses the participant in the Old Testament. Disciple Fast Track, an adaptation of the original, bestselling Disciple Bible Study, provides a viable option for busy people seeking comprehensive engagement over time with the entire biblical text.  We will study the Old Testament in the Fall and New Testament in the Spring.  There will be a break between the studies.

Sunday Discipleship Class 9:45am

Each Sunday at 9:45am

Children's Discipleship-Education
Building Upstairs:
The Gospel Project offers children a Christ centered,
chronological study of the Bible that helps kids dive
deep into the big story of the Bible—God’s plan to rescue
His people through His Son, Jesus Christ. Kids will
be shown how the whole Bible points to Jesus and the
gospel. There will be fun extras like art, videos, music,
and activities to keep your kids engaged every week.

Seekers Class (Adults)
Fellowship Hall,
Holy Grounds Room: Eve Shope, public
school educator and dedicated Seekers SS class
facilitator, continues to build group cohesiveness
and inspire group discussion as various books of
the Bible are examined through close reading
and thoughtful study. Members of her class are
encouraged to comment and ask questions on the
scripture being studied—regardless of their level
of Biblical under- standing. Eve's husband, Pat,
partners in facilitating the lessons. The Apostle, Paul,
wrote to the people at Ephesus saying this: “I keep
asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom
and revelation, so that you may know him better.” This a
great time to join an adult Sunday School class to enjoy
Christian fellowship while growing in Biblical wisdom!

Covenant Class (Adults)
Education Building room 207: Jim Richardson,
long time BUMC member, will use scripture as a
guide for class members to understand and know
what God desires of us. Lessons will come from
topical subjects that are of a concern to the class and
group discussion and interaction will lead followers
to know God in a deeper way. Jim has a BA
in Christian Studies, has written Bible studies,
and has hosted a Christian group to the Holy Land in
the past. Deeply spiritual and a God-fearing man,
Jim Richardson’s commitment to the Jesus “Way of Life”
is inspiring! Proverbs 16:16 says having wisdom
and understanding is better than having silver and
gold! Fellowship, fun and learning—what could be better!

Sunday Discipleship Class 11am

Each Sunday at 11:00 am

Youth Sunday School
Community Center,
Youth Lounge: 6th through 12th graders are
invited to join this class each Sunday. Topics will vary.

Providential Life (Adults)
Meets at 10:45 in room 205:
The class utilizes the book "Living A Providential Life: Discovering Providential Qualities To Live By". We have had lively discussions and lots of personal sharing on a wide-range of topics presented in this book. The book explores the whole concept of God's providence from the grand sweep presented in the Bible. We focus on applying the examples presented in scripture to our lives. The book contains a unique presentation of 100 qualities that are presented in the Bible that Christians are urged to exemplify in the world. Our faithful group not only covers a portion of the book "Living A Providential Life" but covers other spiritual topics that are timely and interesting each week. We share concerns and prayer each Sunday. The various topical areas are designed to present topics and study that are Bible-based, interesting, thought-provoking, and useful to each class member. All materials are based upon the Bible and frequent reading of various verses involving the topic studied are shared every Sunday. The leadership of the class is by Bill Winscott who authored the book "Living A Providential Life: Discovering Providential Qualities To Live By" and is a former Methodist Pastor.
